Comcast

Comcast agreed to sell its ownership stake in NBC Sports Washington. Washington Monumental Sports & Entertainment has held a 33% stake since 2016 and will become the sole owner. 

NBC Sports Washington has exclusive local rights to Washington NHL & NBA games. 

NBC Sports Washington has aired the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals games since the time the network aired in 1984.

As part of the agreement, Comcasts’ NBC Universal will continue to assist in network operations for 18 months. 

Details are yet to be announced regarding a Washington streaming package. However, this past June, New England Sports Network launched a streaming subscription costing $29.99 a month for Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins games.

Intel

Intel will break ground for its new semiconductor facilities on September 9th. The project is estimated to cost $20B and will be Ohio’s largest private economic development project.

The new facility will be in Columbus, Ohio. President Biden is expected to attend and will deliver a speech on rebuilding American manufacturing.

The company plans to open new manufacturing facilities in 2025. It’s estimated that 3,000 employees will work in the factories earning an average salary of $135,000. The construction of the factory is expected to require 7,000 workers. 

Ohio offered about $2B in incentives to Intel, which also encompasses a 30-year tax break. In addition, Intel has outlined $150M in educational funding to grow the semiconductor industry. 

Intel CEO said total investments could reach $100B in the next decade by constructing six additional factories. 

T-Mobile

SpaceX and T Mobile held a joint event last Thursday, August 25th, to announce plans to bring the satellite-based connection to T-Mobile users next year. 

Elon musk said that Starlink’s second-generation satellites would be able to broadcast directly to cell phones.

According to T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert, the partnership would lead to the end of mobile dead zones. He also said beta testing would begin next year with messaging, MMS, & messaging apps. However, voice and data will be implemented later.

T-Mobile added that most cellular phones would be compatible with the new network. 

Volkswagen

Volkswagen Brand is welcomed to Formula 1 as Audi confirms entry Beginning in 2026. The Volkswagen Brand includes luxury brands such as Audi, Bently, Bugatti, Lamborghini & Porsche. 

“I am delighted to welcome Audi to Formula 1, an iconic automotive brand, pioneer, and technological innovator,” said the F1 president. 

The brand is expected to partner with Alfa Romeo to build the chassis. Since Audi only announced that they would be manufacturing the engines. 

Audi was initially rumored to partner with McLaren. However, they are now expected to partner with Alfa Romeo after Alfa Romeo announced an end to the Sauber association by the end of 2023.

Chipotle

Chipotle workers in Lansing, Michigan, became the first restaurant in the chain to unionize. The employees filed for a union election on July 5th in hopes of improving scheduling and increasing wages. 

Chipotle employees at that location are working with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters – a union with 1.2 million members across various professions.

Another store in Maine petitioned for a union last July. However, the store location was permanently closed that same month. 

Peloton

Peloton reached a deal with Amazon to sell fitness equipment and apparel on Amazon. 

Chief Commercial Officer Kevin Cornils said, “there are already about half a million searches on Amazon each month for Peloton’s products, based on research from third-party research consultants. 

In addition to cycling equipment, Pelton will sell branded weights, yoga mats, sports bras, leggings, and water bottles. Etc. 

The partnership should help increase the customer base as revenue highs for the stay-at-home fitness company slow down.
